Your elected officials need to hear from you! Constituents who live and work in community associations (homeowners associations, condominiums, housing cooperatives) provide a unique perspective to help inform the opinions of legislators and influence their votes. Legislators depend on your first-hand experience and knowledge to help inform their decisions. Please take a minute to introduce yourself and urge your legislators to support homeowners in community associations. Remember to first identify yourself as a constituent, resident, and/or professional working with a community association. Then personalize the message with some of the following examples:
- Explain how an issue you’re passionate about will affect you or your community.
- Offer positive suggestions to address the state of associations now.
If applicable, be specific about the action you want from the legislator (support/oppose/amend the current legislation). - Request a letter of reply stating the official's position on the issue (make sure you provide your name, address, and telephone number).
- Carefully proof your email for grammar and spelling before sending.
