MD LAC worked with the bill’s sponsor to introduce this critical piece of legislation and continues to collaborate to further refine the bill to offer the best protections possible for Maryland’s condominium associations and unit owners. HO-6 insurance is vital coverage for condominium homeowners, providing coverage to unit owners that an association is not obligated to cover, including coverage for improvements and betterments (made or acquired from a previous owner), contents/personal property, personal liability, loss of use/additional living expense, and loss assessment coverage. The HO-6 policy can also pay for an owner’s deductible responsibility when a loss originates in the owner’s unit. In short, an HO-6 policy ensures that when the worst happens, the individual unit owners have coverage to avoid out-of- pocket expenses and need only cover the reasonable costs of their own policies’ deductible.
