AB 1955 prohibits school boards and other educational entities from requiring employees to notify parents when a student requests a change to documents or practices, including the student's name, pronouns, or use of single-sex facilities, including restrooms, locker rooms, or changing rooms. 

This means your child can request to use alternative pronouns and use a locker room that is not of their biological gender, and parents not only won't be notified but are legally prohibited from doing so. 

AB 1955 erodes parental engagement and responsibility and could undermine trust between children, parents, and educators. Legislation should foster collaboration between parents and schools at every stage of a child's development. 

AB 1955 undermines local control by removing authority from locally elected school board members who are entrusted with governing their community's public schools. School boards ensure school districts reflect their communities' values, beliefs, and priorities.
