Chris Smith (R-NJ) - have urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to impose Global Magnitsky sanctions on Azerbaijani officials and demand the release of Armenian POWs & Artsakh's political leaders. “This bipartisan letter—led by Representatives Dina Titus and Chris Smith—sends a powerful message that America must stand on the side of justice and accountability,” stated ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “We thank all the Members of Congress who signed this letter for demanding immediate Magnitsky sanctions against Azerbaijani officials involved in war crimes and the unlawful detention of Armenian political leaders and POWs. Grateful to the Congressional Armenian Staff Association (CASA) members who shared their insights on career opportunities on Capitol Hill with our ANCA Rising Leaders during our Lucine Kouchakdjian Capitol Hill day. Each speaker - many alumni of the Hovig Apo Saghdejian Capital Gateway Program - offered first-hand accounts on life on Capitol Hill and how to succeed in a myriad of roles there. In addition to the 'lunch and learn' session with CASA, the #RisingLeaders are visiting 400 Congressional offices today, urging U.S. Representatives to co-sign a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enforce Section 907 restrictions on U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan.
