Pennsylvanians can begin applying for Property Tax and Rent Rebates for the 2024 tax year.

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 and older, widows and widowers who are 50 and older and people with disabilities who are 18 and older.

In 2023, the Pennsylvania General Assembly approved a historic expansion of the Property Tax and Rent Rebate program. Under the expansion, crucial updates are now in place.

First, the maximum standard rebate will increase from $650 to $1,000. Meanwhile, the income limits for renters and homeowners will be made equal, both increasing to $45,000 — the first time since 2006 that the income limits have been raised.

These income limits will also be tied to the cost of living moving forward, meaning people who receive a rebate won’t have to worry about losing their eligibility through no fault of their own in the years to come.

Ultimately, the expansion resulted in nearly 175,000 additional Pennsylvanians qualifying for a property tax or rent rebate. At the same time, roughly 86% of the 430,000 claimants who already qualify will see their rebates increase.

The year 2024 was the first in which Pennsylvanians could apply with the new expansion in effect, and the results were great! Over 520,000 people received rebates for a total of $318 million. Over 100,000 recipients were first-time program users.

I see firsthand the significant impact the Property Tax and Rent Rebate program has on folks in Berks County and beyond; 2024 was a record-setting year for the Property Tax and Rent Rebate program, and I think we can do even better in 2025.
