"It took far too long to acknowledge what some wanted the world to forget." Congressman Jim McGovern calls for accountability—from the White House, State Department, and Congress—for Azerbaijan’s war crimes, including the imprisonment of Armenians and destruction of Armenian cultural heritage. He emphasizes the need for a just and sustainable peace agreement—one not violated by Azerbaijan’s aggression. "Turkey continues to engage in a long and dangerous campaign to deny the genocide and to silence anyone who speaks the truth. Indeed, Turkey's denial has become a genocide on top of a genocide, to compound upon the erasure of flesh and blood, an erasure of memory and of history" From the denial of the Armenian Genocide to Azerbaijan’s 2023 ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, Adam Schiff exposes the brutal campaign to erase Armenian lives and history. With Turkey’s backing, the Aliyev regime has turned genocide denial into an ongoing atrocity. The ANCA-led event brought together leaders demanding accountability, justice, and action to stop further aggression and cultural destruction. "Because we have to remember that this is being done, not because they need to convert these into something else, but to erase the history of that region and to try to pretend as though Artsakh and Armenia are not the absolute heart and soul of the Armenian people" Laura Friedman calls out Azerbaijan’s campaign to erase Armenian culture from Artsakh — a deliberate act of cultural genocide meant to rewrite history. These sacred sites are not just Armenian; they’re part of humanity’s shared heritage. ANCA’s press event gathered Congressional and state leaders demanding accountability for the Armenian and Artsakh genocides.
