The BoatUS Government Affairs team was on Capitol Hill this week, attending two critical congressional hearings to advocate for the interests of recreational boaters.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's markup of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) was up first. This important legislation addresses water infrastructure projects that are essential for maintaining and improving our waterways, ensuring they remain navigable and safe for boaters.
Additionally, Associates attended the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries hearing. Key issues discussed included the MapOCEAN Act, which aims to enhance ocean mapping and data sharing, and the Fisheries Data Modernization and Accuracy Act, which focuses on improving the collection and accuracy of fisheries data. Both pieces of legislation are crucial for the sustainable management of our marine resources and the continued enjoyment of our waters. In addition, legislation to delay the implementation of any expansion of the North Atlantic Right Whale Speed rule was reviewed.
BoatUS remains committed to advocating for policies that benefit the boating community. Stay tuned for updates on these legislative efforts and how you can get involved in supporting our mission.
