The BoatU.S. Government Affairs Team is always working to stay in front of policy trends on the water. Here’s what BoatU.S. is watching for you:
While many think the policy work done on Capitol Hill is handled by committees, other important forums are Congressional Caucuses. Created around shared policy objectives and usually bi-partisan, Congressional Caucuses help to find common ground for many legislative proposals.
The largest and most bi-partisan caucus is the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC), which focuses on recreational fishing and hunting issues. By some estimates, over sixty percent of boats are used for fishing as their primary activity, making the CSC a great place for advancing boaters' interests.
BoatU.S. recently attended the CSF gathering before the State of the Union address. With discussion on topics such as prevention of aquatic invasive species and proposed speed restrictions on the East Coast, this gathering provided a chance to connect with many members of Congress and their staff. As part of our sustained effort to represent boaters on Capitol Hill, participating in such gatherings is one way we act as the boaters' voice on Capitol Hill.
We count on boaters to alert us to issues and trends in their own areas. What are your thoughts? Drop us a line at govtaffairs@boatus.com
