The BoatU.S. Government Affairs Team is always working to stay in front of policy trends on the water. Here’s what BoatU.S. is watching for you:
Army Corps of Engineers Programs – It is a surprise to many that the federal agency that provides the most outdoor recreation opportunities is not the National Park Service or National Forest Service, but none other than the Army Corps of Engineers. The BoatU.S. Government Affairs Team engages with the Corps on a regular basis and advocates for funding and policies that work for boaters.
While many Corps projects are undertaken for commercial navigation, water supply and flood control, boaters and anglers enjoy their benefit. We count on the Corps to keep the marine transportation system dredged and repaired. Projects such as the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Cape Cod Canal, and inland lakes and West Coast jetties keep the waters accessible to all. You can learn more about the Corps recreation programs at their website: Corps Rec
One way to improve the Corps recreation programs is to ensure any fees boaters pay go back to the areas they are using. BoatU.S. Supports the LAKES Act which addresses this issue. Ask your members of Congress to co-sponsor by going to the BoatU.S. Action Center here: LAKES Act
We count on boaters to alert us to issues and trends in their own areas. What are your thoughts? Drop us a line at govtaffairs@boatus.com
