The National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire soon!
Congress continues to pass short-term extensions of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). While we appreciate the efforts to extend the program, we need to ensure that homeowners have the protection they need to safeguard their most valuable possession: their homes.
Why it's important: Flood insurance is mandatory for properties located in a flood zone with a mortgage from a federally backed or federally regulated lender, making the NFIP a critical tool that protects the largest financial asset for many Americans: their home. Since the last long-term extension expired in September 2017, the program has been reauthorized on a short-term basis 22 times in Congress.
At Anywhere, we believe a long-term extension of the NFIP is necessary to provide homeowners with certainty and to ensure closings across the country are not disrupted. We strongly support a long-term reauthorization while also supporting efforts to reform and modernize the NFIP in a bipartisan fashion.
What you can do now: RAISE YOUR VOICE
Using the form on this page, you can send a pre-written message to your Members of Congress to ask them to continue to support this critical program for millions of homeowners across the country.
The National Association of REALTORS® estimates that more than 1,300 properties could be affected EACH DAY by the discontinuation of this program. As existing properties will begin to expire, buyers will lose financing and may be forced to pay fees to hold interest rates.
Every homeowner deserves the right to protect their homes and businesses.
