Advance telehealth measures beyond COVID–19
Before leaving for August recess, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an amended version of H.R. 4040 the Advancing Telehealth Beyond COVID–19 Act by a vote of 416-12.

This important legislation would address several of APAs top legislative priorities by extending multiple telehealth flexibilities implemented in response to the ongoing Public Health Emergency (PHE) until January 2025. Of particular interest to psychiatry, the legislation would expand Medicare coverage to include audio-only telehealth in certain circumstances, including for behavioral health services, and delay the implementation of the 6-month in person requirement for coverage of behavioral health services.

House passage of this bill represents an important step towards removing unnecessary barriers and ensuring the continuity of care for patients seeking mental health and substance use disorders services. However, absent Senate action these critical flexibilities are still set to expire 151 days after the end of the current PHE, which was recently extended to October 15.

Please TAKE ACTION NOW and ask your Senators to support this important legislation.
