We call on the 2.5 million members of The American Legion Family to immediately contact their Members of Congress and demand action. The men and women of our Coast Guard MUST BE PAID NOW.  

The United States Coast Guard is an integral component of our nation’s national security and homeland defense. At a time when the United States faces one of its highest levels of risk in decades due to ongoing global events, it is completely unacceptable for Coast Guard members and their families to face the possibility of missing a paycheck. 

Paid or not, these men and women will continue to carry out the vital missions entrusted to them, including protecting our ports, securing maritime borders, conducting search-and-rescue operations, and intercepting narcotics traffickers and human smugglers. 

It is time for Washington to stop playing political games and pay our Coast Guard. Congress should immediately pass H.R. 5401/S. 3030, the Pay Our Troops Act of 2026, which would provide continuing appropriations for the Coast Guard during any future lapse in funding. The repeated threat of government shutdowns places severe and unnecessary hardship on Coast Guard servicemembers and their families.
