The administration has frozen over $3 billion allocated to infrastructure projects that support walking and has threatened to eliminate key programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All and Reconnecting Communities entirely.
Congress took action to fund safer streets and more connected communities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Now, it’s your turn to fight for the walking movement.
Tell Congress, and members of your state government, they need to stick up for the investments that make it easier for members of your community to walk with confidence through their neighborhoods.
USDOT has set a February 18 deadline before they start eliminating entire funding programs. That means billions more dollars for walkable communities could vanish overnight.
Without this funding, progress will stall. The federal transportation programs the Trump administration seeks to cut provide huge public benefit: they fund sidewalks in small towns, they make sure children are able to walk to school safely, they repair the harm highways have caused to communities, and more.
Your representatives in government need to push back. But they won’t unless they hear from you. Tell them to fight for programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All, Reconnecting Communities, and others that fund improvements for walking, biking, and transit in your community.
