Support H.R. 8164/S. 4206, the Captive Primate Safety Act of 2024
Private ownership of non-human primates as vanity pets or for commercial exploitation in poorly run facilities threatens the health, safety, and wellbeing of both people and animals.

Unfortunately, an active trade market remains for private ownership of these species.  Unless the demand for non-human primates in personal possession is eliminated, the trade will continue to exist as one of many threats to non-human primate species survival.

Legislation and regulations related to private ownership of non-human primates varies by state and depends on the species.  H.R. 8164/S. 4206, the Captive Primate Safety Act, would prohibit, except by qualified entities, the possession of any non-human primate.

Please send a message to urge your representative to cosponsor H.R. 8164/S. 4206, the Captive Primate Safety Act.
