Maternal morbidity and mortality rates remain remarkably high in the United States compared to other developed countries. The US ranks 49th out of 184 countries for maternal deaths and is one of eight countries where rates are on the rise. Black women are 3 to 4 times as likely to die from pregnancy-related causes as white women.
The Moms Matter Act, H.R. 3312/S. 1602, would make investments in programs to support moms with maternal mental health conditions and substance use disorders. It also provides funding to grow and diversify the maternal mental and behavioral health care workforce. AWHONN supports this bill because, according to the CDC, “mental health conditions are one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related death.”
Would you call now to ask your representative and senators to support the Moms Matter Act?
