In 2026, the American Cancer Society estimates 6,340 Minnesota men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and 600 will die from the disease, making it one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the state. Early detection is critical - especially for those at higher risk. Yet many men may skip screenings due to out-of-pocket costs, even when those costs are relatively low.
In Minnesota, SF 5217, is being discussed as a way to expand access to prostate cancer screening and follow-up care by reducing or eliminating these financial barriers. Raising awareness about risk, early detection, and affordability can help improve outcomes across the state.
