ASRT monitors legislation daily that affects radiologic technologists in Virginia and across the country. Public comment for regulations governing the practice of Radiologic Technology recently came to our attention. The petitioner requests that the Board of Medicine amend 18VAC85-101-92 to permit remote supervision of radiologist assistants for minimally invasive procedures and diagnostic imaging. The petition for rulemaking will be published in the Virginia Register of Regulations on June 5, 2023. The petition will also be published on the Virginia Regulatory Town Hall at www.townhall.virginia.gov to receive public comment, which will open on June 5, 2023, and will close on July 5, 2023. The board will consider the petition and all comments in support or opposition at the next meeting after the close of public comment, currently scheduled for August 4, 2023. The petitioner will be notified of the board's decision after that meeting. Since 1949, VSRT has worked diligently to provide education, networking and to vigorously defend our profession and its high educational standards from potential intrusions that may lead to a decrease in image quality and safety for our patients and physicians. The Commonwealth of Virginia has a licensure law that requires non-hospital practitioners to obtain a license to operate ionizing, radiation-emitting equipment as well as other high science technologies.
