SDSRT Strategic Plan Includes Advocacy

The South Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists has established a strategic plan that strongly focuses on advocacy efforts to establish education and certification standards for individuals performing medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures in South Dakota by working closely with ASRT. South Dakota is one of a handful of remaining states that does not have state licensure requirements in support of the radiologic sciences.

SDSRT believes education in radiation protection, radiation safety and radiation management, along with image acquisition and patient care is important to ensure the radiation and patient safety standards are applied consistently in the clinical setting. Certified radiologic technologists and radiation therapists are highly educated in a specialized program devoted to the use of medical radiation, and their competency is assessed by an examination and clinical experience before imaging or treating patients.

To achieve this goal, the SDSRT is developing a legislative committee and building relationships with other state health professionals and organizations.

If you are interested in joining the SDSRT in moving the profession forward in South Dakota, please contact the SDSRT at sdradtechs@gmail.com.
