In February 2026, Reps. Kyle Mullins and Bryan Cutler introduced House Bill 2173, Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Health and Safety Act, in Pennsylvania. HB 2173 creates licensure requirements for all individuals who perform medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures in Pennsylvania. By requiring medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals to obtain licensure through the State Board of Medicine, Pennsylvania is taking a critical step to ensure Pennsylvanians receive safe, high-quality care. This legislation will immediately and positively impact patient and workplace safety and the high-quality health care Pennsylvania patients deserve. The ASRT, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Pennsylvania Society of Radiologic Technologists, Philadelphia Society of Radiologic Technologists and other partner organizations have worked tirelessly to advocate for this important legislation. Pennsylvanians deserve high-quality health care provided by professionals who have met nationally recognized educational and training standards.
