ASRT submitted a letter of opposition to Assemblyman Umba and Chairman Kennedy opposing AssemblyBill 5480that modifies the age and education requirements for radiologic technologists.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) prohibits youth under the age of 18 from being employed in hazardous occupations. Subjecting students to hazardous radiation exposure would jeopardize their safety. FLSA's child labor provisions are designed to protect youth and prohibit their employment in jobs that are detrimental to their health. The ASRT respectfully agrees with this stance.
TheNew Jersey Society of Radiologic Technologists is proud to have some of the strongest radiologic technology standards in the nation. The Radiation Protection Act was established in 1968 and the NJSRT remains steadfast in protecting patients, as well as medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in the state.
