ASRT sent a recommendation letter to the members of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor regarding Assembly Bill 364. ASRT recommended that physician assistants performing and interpreting diagnostic procedures be excluded from performing medical imaging procedures.

ASRT’s suggestion maintained the defined scope of physician assistants but did not allow them to overstep their scope to perform, supervise and interpret medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures without appropriate education and training.

Subsequently, the problematic language was removed from AB 364 and only changes to the membership of the Board of Medical Examiners were addressed and signed by the governor on June 9, 2023.
