On Feb. 27, House Bill 949 was introduced to the Louisiana State Legislature by Rep. Kimberly Coates. HB 949 passed the House unanimously on April 14 before being sent to the Senate. On May 6, HB 949 was reported favorably by the Senate Health and Welfare Committee and has been sent to the Senate floor for consideration. HB 949 proposes the licensure of radiologist assistants under the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. HB 949 will open opportunities in Louisiana for individuals who have obtained nationally recognized credentials to practice as radiologist assistants at the top of their scope of practice as part of a radiologist-led team. HB 949 will immediately and positively impact patient and workplace safety and the high-quality health care Louisiana patients deserve. ASRT supports the inclusion of radiologist assistants in the licensure program. Louisianans deserve high-quality health care provided by professionals who have met nationally recognized educational and training standards.
