Limited Scope Operators BillLATEST UPDATE: House Bill 61 failed in the 2022 legislative session. House Bill 61, which would change the types of facilities in which limited x-ray machine operators are permitted to work, was introduced on January 4, 2022, by Reps. Johnson, Massey and Prunty. Currently, LXMOs may only work in facilities where contrast studies, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy procedures are not performed. HB 61 would permit LXMOs to be employed in facilities where these advanced procedures take place if the LXMO is employed by the facility as a limited x-ray machine operator prior to the date that the facility began performing contrast studies, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy procedures; or if the LXMO was employed by the facility prior to the effective date of the bill. The Kentucky Society of Radiologic Technologists opposes enactment of this bill citing that allowing limited x-ray machine operators to perform imaging examinations in a facility that performs contrast studies, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy procedures is not in the best interest of patient safety and that the continued clinical education of radiologic technology students from accredited colleges and universities may be affected. The KSRT believes that it is imperative to provide Kentucky communities with the best care and that patients expect a degreed professional to deliver that care.
