KSRT Advocacy EffortsThe Kansas Society of Radiologic Technologists is considering legislative activities to strengthen the Kansas Radiologic Technology Practice Act. The goal is to remove provisions in the statute that allow the performance of radiologic technology procedures if the non-R.T. is under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. The provision is problematic since nurses, receptionists and any individuals who the supervising physician is willing to approve as competent are performing x-ray examinations. The KSRT is seeking to replace existing language with education and competency assessment requirements for limited x-ray machine operators. Additionally, licensure for radiologist assistants would be added to the statute. The KSRT is monitoring the legislative and regulatory environment very closely to determine the best time to start a legislative campaign to make these changes to existing laws.
