The Alaska State Legislature approved a bill, HB 314, that would renew the Alaska State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors (AELS Board). Operating under the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing, its primary mission is to protect public health, safety, and welfare by ensuring that only qualified, competent professionals are licensed to practice in the state. HB 314 would extend the AELS Board’s current authorization through June 30, 2033. The bill now awaits on Governor Dunleavy’s desk for his approval. We need your help in ensuring the AELS Board, as licensing boards are essential for protection of public health, safety, and welfare, is renewed.
The AELS Board is already in its Sunset period and will cease operations, and responsibilities will be transferred to the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development on July 1, 2026. All registries would continue to be licensed, but the process for new registrants, people who want to schedule PE exams, and handling ethics investigations remains uncertain.
Please take a few moments to send a message to Governor Dunleavy and the commissioners of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Department of Environmental Conservation, and Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development for their support of signing HB 314 into law.
