While this bill appears to have been introduced to advance government “efficiency,” we believe that in practice it would jeopardize the safety and welfare of Nevadans. SB78 would slash oversight across multiple professions from a 9 member board with 6 engineers and 2 land surveyors to 8 people on a consolidated board, of whom only 4 members would be professional engineers.
By reducing specialization and expert representation, this new multidisciplinary board would almost certainly increase the work required of fewer qualified members. In turn, this would result in delayed or less thorough evaluation of licensing and professional conduct issues before the board – a scenario that will create longer delays for businesses, reduce the capacity to investigate misconduct, worsen current backlogs and increase risk for all Nevadans.
We need your help in preserving the NVBPELS, as licensing boards with qualified members are essential for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare. Please take a few moments to send a message to your state senator to oppose and vote against SB78—and encourage your networks to take action!
