The Georgia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) released the 2024 Report Card for Georgia’s Infrastructure today, with 14 categories of infrastructure receiving an overall grade of ‘C+’. This is the same grade as the 2019 Report Card for Georgia’s Infrastructure. A ‘C+’ grade means Georgia’s infrastructure is in mediocre condition and requires attention. However, Georgia’s grade is two steps higher than the national average of ‘C-’ in the 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure.
These grades show Georgia remains committed to prioritizing its built environment, especially the infrastructure systems which help make Georgia an economic powerhouse.
Category | 2024 Grades |
Aviation | C+ |
Bridges | B |
Dams | D+ |
Drinking Water | C+ |
Energy | B |

Public Parks | C |
Rail | B |
Roads | C+ |
Solid Waste | C+ |
Stormwater | C- |

Wastewater | C- |
The report shows improvement to many infrastructure systems in Georgia, and reasons for concerns in a few others. Much of Georgia’s infrastructure improved based on one-time funding increases. The federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is providing Georgia with billions in infrastructure funding. Strides made and funding delivered so far have been a down payment. Dedicated, predictable funding will sustain the current progress being made or bridge the necessary investment gaps. Most concerning of those gaps are transit and water systems, which benefited less from recent investments.
As Georgians learn about infrastructure needs and decisionmakers’ work to address them, the 2024 Georgia Report Card provides insight needed to start conversations and ignite action to improve the 2024 grades and, as a result, the state’s future by:
- Delivering dedicated state transit funding.
- Setting responsible, resilient utility rates and user fees.
- Expanding safety funding and oversight in dams and roads.
- Investing in new electricity generation and a resilient grid.
- Increasing the funding and coordination of intermodal freight projects.
