Other Advocates: Ask Congress to support the Department of Education
The Department of Education is instrumental in creating and enforcing policies that provide resources, accommodations, and specialized support for all students, including those with disabilities. These policies foster inclusive learning environments and ensure that schools comply with laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). By setting standards for accessible education, the department helps to break down barriers that may prevent students with disabilities from reaching their full potential.

The Department of Education also supports a continuum of services and resources for students, educators, and families. This includes training for school personnel, collaborative efforts to improve academic performance and behavior, and partnerships with districts to create thriving and productive communities.

Multiple news sources have reported that the Administration is considering a Presidential executive order to dismantle the Department of Education. While the Administration can shut down parts of the agency that are not written into law, Congress created the Department of Education, so only Congress has the power to eliminate it. It’s vital for your Members of Congress to hear from you today about the importance of the Department of Education.
