Unfortunately, the law currently contains a limitation that deprives recipients of the ability to save. In place for over 30 years, the SSI asset limits are just $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for married couples. Such a limitation hinders individuals’ ability to save for the future or emergencies and can keep people living in poverty.
You can take action today and join the bipartisan effort behind the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act. With support from over 370 organizations and from legislators on both sides of the aisle, this bill would empower the 8 million older adults and people with disabilities relying on SSI to earn and save more for their futures.
By rallying behind this cause, we not only address the financial challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities but also affirm our commitment to working toward policies that seek to improve individuals’ well-being and independence. Your support during this awareness month is crucial in sending a powerful message about prioritizing the needs of those who rely on SSI.
Thank you for your commitment to advocacy and for standing with ANCOR in support of the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act.
