Message Sens. Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville and ask them to vote “Yes” on the bipartisan tax bill.
These CTC improvements would benefit 280,000 Alabama children ages 17 and under in the first year. Nearly half of these children are Black or Latino.
The need is large and growing. The number of children living in families with incomes below the poverty line increased by 5 million between 2021 and 2022, when most COVID-19 economic relief measures expired, including a temporary CTC expansion.
The temporary CTC expansion cut the U.S. child poverty rate by almost half until it expired. The House-passed proposal, while more modest, would extend the credit to more than 80% of children whose families are excluded from the current CTC. This improvement would help tens of thousands of Alabama families afford food, school clothes, utilities and other needs.
Tell Sens. Britt and Tuberville that Alabama families need the Child Tax Credit expansion!
