Take Action NOW
Ask Your Senator to Support the Repeal of the Medical Device Tax
The AGD is contacting you to ask for your help in generating support for a repeal of the medical device excise tax before Congress adjourns for the year.
The tax is imposed on manufacturer revenues, not profits, which can have a significant impact on costs that are then passed down to your dental practice and patients.
Since its creation in 2011, implementation of the medical device tax has been delayed by Congress through legislation. Unfortunately, this tax is set to go into effect in the new year if Congress does not act. It is vital that Congress act now on this issue, given that it will be much more challenging for legislative action to occur during the next session of Congress.
A bill that would permanently repeal the medical device tax (H.R. 184) was passed in July by the House of Representatives. Legislative proposals in the Senate to repeal the 2.3% tax on medical devices reportedly have enough bipartisan support to be passed before the end of the year. However, legislative provisions that would provide relief on the medical device tax would most likely be included in a larger "must pass" piece of legislation, such as a government funding bill, as opposed to a standalone bill.
Please take a moment to contact your Senators and urge them to support a repeal of the medical device tax today.
