Dear FL AGD member,
Recently, a bill was introduced in the Florida Senate which seeks to establish dental therapists in the state, and authorize them to perform some surgical procedures under just the general supervision of a dentist. The bill (SB 1498) is currently pending before the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.
We are asking that you reach out to your State Senator as soon as possible and ask them to oppose SB 1498.
If you are able to set up a meeting to discuss the issue with your State Senator or their staff, please consider doing so. The FL AGD can assist you with materials and talking points, so please contact us if you are able to meet with your State Senator.
Again, it is critical that the voice of general dentistry is heard by legislators on this issue. Dental therapist advocates are planning a particularly strong effort in Florida in the coming year. Please take action today to help protect the quality of oral health care provided to Florida patients!
