Please email and call your state legislators to vote yes on the Mary Carol Akers Birth Centers Act. It has been introduced in both the house and the senate as separate bills (Senate Bill 17 and House Bill 90).
This legislation would make it easier to establish freestanding birthing centers, which are medical clinics specializing in childbirth. (This is similar to how we have medical clinics specializing in dentistry and eye care.)
While we would prefer that there be no certificate of need requirement at all in the legislation, at least it opens a window for more of those specialized clinics to open up.
