Tickets to the Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at noon on the west front of the U.S. Capitol.
If you would like to attend the swearing-in ceremony, you should request tickets to the swearing-in ceremony as soon as possible from your Member of Congress.
Each Member of Congress will receive a limited allotment of tickets to share with their constituents. Each Member of Congress decides how they will disburse their allotment of tickets. The majority of these members disburse their tickets through a lottery system based on requests received.
Most Members of Congress require that tickets be picked up at their office in Washington, DC prior to or on Inauguration Day. Tickets are usually not mailed. If you are allotted tickets, the Member of Congress who gives you the tickets will provide you with ticket pick-up instructions.
When picking up tickets, congressional offices require you to bring your identification card to retrieve the tickets. This is to prove your identity and prove that you live in the state or district of that Member of Congress.
How to Request Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony Tickets:
- Go to your Senators’ website. Follow the instructions on their website to request swearing-in ceremony tickets. If you have questions, please contact the Senators’ office. You can find your two Senators’ contact information here.

The Presidential Inaugural Parade
The inaugural parade takes place following the swearing-in ceremony. The parade runs from the U.S. Capitol along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. The public can line the parade route. No tickets are required to stand along the parade route. However, a limited number of bleachers are placed along the parade route, which do require tickets. Tickets for the bleachers can be secured on the Inaugural Committee website.
The Presidential Inaugural Balls
Inaugural balls take place on the evening of the Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony. There are two types of balls: Official Balls and Unofficial Balls.
Official Balls: These balls are sanctioned by the Inaugural Committee. The President and his/her spouse attend the official balls. Information regarding tickets to the official balls can be found on the Inaugural Committee website.
Unofficial Balls: These balls are not sanctioned by the Inaugural Committee and are usually sponsored by companies or other organizations. The President and his/her spouse do not have to attend these balls, though they usually do attend one or two unofficial balls. Tickets for these balls are obtained directly from the companies and organizations sponsoring the balls.
