We need your help! As a result of Vermont Act 167, a mandate to help control healthcare costs in the state, Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont has proposed shuttering their Birth Center and Obstetric Unit. This proposed closure will not only create a healthcare desert in the Morrisville/Lamoille County community, but it places pregnant women and women of reproductive age in jeopardy, as they will be forced to travel further distances to access essential maternity services, potentially delaying vital care during emergencies and impacting their overall health. Furthermore, there are no plans to keep any nurse-midwives or obstetricians on staff to help with emergency room deliveries that will inevitably result, or any OB-trained nurses to keep people postpartum.
Please take a moment to reach out to your state legislators to express your dismay with this proposal and the unattended consequences on women, families, and communities within Vermont resulting from Act 167. We have provided a template letter that can be tweaked to reflect your opinions on this issue.
