INSTRUCTIONS:
- Use the form to send a message to Governor Newsom and your State Legislators.
- Make sure to check off "Send me future Advocacy Action Alerts from ACCFB" so you don't miss future opportunities to take action!

On April 21, over 40 community members, volunteers, ACCFB agency partners, and staff are joining over 200 other advocates from across the state for our annual Hunger Action Day. We will send a clear message to our elected officials: there is a hunger emergency.
Last summer, the federal government passed H.R. 1, which was the largest cut to food assistance ever, potentially eliminating 9 billion meals annually across the country. This cut to SNAP (known in California as CalFresh) is devastating to our community, pushing even more people into hunger and poverty. As part of these cruel cuts, on April 1, an estimated 5,400 humanitarian immigrants in Alameda County and 72,000 across the state lost their SNAP/CalFresh benefits.
That’s why we’re demanding that state leaders act now. It’s time for California to step up and protect our community members.
We urge the Governor and the State Legislature to pass:
- Food Bank Funding: $110 million to meet surging demand caused by federal cuts and rising food costs.
- Immigrant Rights: Protect the planned October 2027 expansion of CalFresh-equivalent benefits to undocumented Californians 55 and older. Fully fund this expansion to all Californians excluded from CalFresh due to their immigration status, regardless of age, including the 72,000 humanitarian immigrants who will lose their CalFresh benefits because of federal cuts.
- Respond to SNAP/CalFresh Cuts: Secure state funding to fill some of the gap created by federal cuts, especially from expanded CalFresh time limits.
- CalFresh Outreach: $14 million for the CalFresh Outreach Network.
- Child Nutrition: Create an online statewide application for SUN Bucks to make it easier for children to access food using this program during the summer months when school is out.
But even if you’re not joining us in Sacramento, your voice matters just as much. Send a message to the Governor and your State Legislators today, urging them to respond to the federal cuts by strengthening California’s anti-hunger programs.
It’s going to take all of us – food banks, advocates, and elected leaders – working together to make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry. Act now!
